Dr Jesus Canduela

Associate Professor in Business Research Methods and Head of the DBA Programme

Dr Jesus Canduela is Assistant Professor in Business Research Methods and Head of the DBA Programme at Heriot-Watt University.

His major research interests lie in the area of research methods, employment and social cohesion. His current research projects include: investigating the impact of leaveism, and the social dynamics of home credit.

Jesus has undertaken research funded by the Scottish Government, the Equality Commission Northern Ireland and Glasgow Housing Association. Jesus has published in peer-reviewed journals including Work, Employment and Society, British Journal of Industrial Relations and Social Policy and Administration. 

Dr Canduela has years of experience teaching research methods and supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He currently mentors and supervises Doctoral students and teaches the Introduction to Business Research 4-day seminars for the doctoral programmes at EBS.

Background

Jesus has enjoyed a career in the professional sector as a statistician and consultant, in addition to a career in academia where he was previously a Lecturer at the School of Management at Edinburgh Napier University. He joined Edinburgh Business School in March 2018.

He is a highly experienced quantitative researcher. He is an expert in multivariate modelling and forecasting. He has considerable experience in working with, and manipulating, large secondary data sets including the Workplace Employment Relations Study (WERS), the Labour Force Survey, the British Household Panel Survey and European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC). He is an expert in online questionnaire design and analysis having been responsible for them across a number of research projects. He is a confident user of the statistical package SPSS and has experience of STATA and SAS.
